The Democrats Are Sleeping While the House Burns

So here’s the thing—every day, we’re inching closer to full-blown authoritarianism, and somehow, the Democratic Party still thinks we’re playing by the old rules. While the GOP is running a speedrun on dismantling democracy, the Dems are over here sending strongly worded tweets and “deeply concerned” statements. It’s exhausting. It’s infuriating. And honestly? It’s not enough.

Let’s break it down. Trump and his allies aren’t even trying to hide their plans anymore. They’re openly talking about purging the government of career officials and replacing them with loyalists, gutting agencies that keep corruption in check, and using the Justice Department as their personal legal shield. They’re laying the groundwork for a government that serves them, not the people. And what’s the Democratic response? A press release. Maybe a fundraising email. Rinse and repeat.

This is the same party that let Trump stack the Supreme Court with extremists, sat back as voting rights got gutted, and now seems shocked that Republicans are targeting trans rights, abortion access, and basic civil liberties. At some point, we have to ask: Are they this naive, or do they just not care enough to fight? Because we’re past the point of debating policy differences—we’re in a battle over whether democracy even survives the next decade.

And let’s be real—the culture war isn’t just a distraction, it’s a strategy. While Democrats are out here playing nice, Republicans are using fear and resentment to energize their base. They’ve spent years convincing people that their neighbors are the enemy while passing laws that strip away rights, funnel wealth upward, and give corporations free rein. The Democratic Party should be leading a counteroffensive, but instead, they’re afraid of looking too “radical.” Newsflash: Defending human rights, economic justice, and democracy itself is not radical—it’s necessary.

This isn’t the type of newsletter that will coddle the Democratic Party or make excuses. At some point, accountability has to go to everyone. We’re tired of being told to settle for the “lesser of two evils” while basic rights are stripped away and democracy erodes in real time. The bar is on the floor, and yet, somehow, they keep tripping over it. It’s time to demand more—which, frankly, is just the bare minimum.

So where does that leave us? With two choices: keep watching the slow-motion collapse of our institutions, or demand better. Demand a Democratic Party that actually fights, that stops playing defense, and starts setting the agenda. Because if we don’t push them to act now, there may not be a “later” to fight for.

Stay loud. Stay angry. Stay engaged. We’ve got work to do.
